Nicholas Gecan

Visual Artist

Born into a family of artists, Nicholas Gecan's creative path was discovered at an early age. With a firm grip on crayons and colored pencils he began drawing on the walls in the hallway of his parent's house. After some guidance, support and paper were provided, his desires and abilities for creating visual images continued to develop.

Growing up in the late 1970's / early 80's, in the presence of his parents' graphic design business, and taking advanced courses in later schooling, he grew to learn and understand the importance and influence of his relationship with art. Due to an intense experience with nature as a child, the initial inspiration and later direction of his art would ultimatley be realized. Nature and our unique relationship as a species to it is the basis of his art.

From landscape painting to "found object" mixed media to works made of materials most would regard as trash, the vision and purpose of his creative path came into focus. Nicholas Gecan's artwork aims to expose and challenge our relationship, dependence and impact on our natural and artificial environment.
